2314668364_4b7c65db9b_m.jpgAre your troops tired? Are your workers weary? Is burnout brewing? A new, free e-book courtesy of Slacker Manager promises to give you over 300 ideas to boost employee engagement.

Some of the suggestions are on-target, while others seem like stretches designed to fit the cutesy A to Z format. Example: “Yearn: Continually ask how much you yearn for employee engagement.” Uh, okay. Yearn? Really? As in, “to have a strong and melancholy desire” for engagement? Sounds like someone overused the thesaurus here.

But most of the ideas are solid and some are actually original. And hey, if you don’t like them all (”Croon: Our projects make us want to sing about them”) — at least they’re free.

    .

Well, my dictionary defines to yearn as "to have an earnest or strong desire." And I can see plenty of reason--and validity--for yearning for methods, techniques, and approaches that increase the engagement among one's employees.

Taken out of context, anything can look silly. Here's the entire Y (as in yearn) entry:

"Intense longing for your organization to fulfill its culture via employee engagement gives you (and the organization) a better shot at fulfillment. Continually ask how much you yearn for employee engagement. Be prepared to give yourself shots of vitamin Y if/when necessary."

Point: whatever ramps up our own engagement is worth our awareness.
