When I wrote last week about recognizing the signs of burnout and how to combat it, I was surprised by the volume of responses and readers.
Seems like many of you are intimately familiar with burnout, either because you’ve been there before or are struggling with work stresses now.
A recent CareerBuilder survey about stress backed up that second assumption, indicating that nearly a third of workers nationwide feel burned out.
Some more data from the survey, which polled 4,400 people:
- 47 percent of workers reported they have taken on more responsibility because of a layoff within their organization
- 37 percent said they are handling the work of two people
- 30 percent feel burned out.
- 34 percent of workers who kept their jobs after a layoff reported they are spending more time at the office to accommodate the workload
- 17 percent are putting in at least 10 hours per day.
- 22 percent are working more weekends.
Wow. That’s sobering.
