Well, it’s “sharpen the saw day again” — as we go into the holiday season.  Before giving you your weekly dose of inspiration, I’ll share an observation based upon my experienced working in a dysfunctional organization for about five years.

I discovered that the best time build positive relationships with co-workers was in the week between Christmas and New Years.  The big wigs (who were responsible for the insanity) ALWAYS took those days off, because there would be few employees to bully.  And the big wig’s toadies also took those days off because, well, there weren’t any important posteriors to kiss.

That left the fundamentally decent people who, like myself, were holding their vacation days to get a break from the insanity that was the norm.

Even better, because the big wigs were absent, everyone would come in 10am and leave about 2pm — and nobody noticed or cared.  And while there, it was strictly Christmas cookies and hanging around.

Frankly, it was the only time I felt really happy in that awful place.   Anyway, in light of that, here’s a video that expresses the positive aspect of working with a good group of people.

I think the reason I keep coming back to your blog is that you're one cynical SOB, Geoffrey. Its what I can most relate to about you.

To all your faithful readers, if you're one of the millions of dedicated and decent people who have worked hard, never hesitated to take bullet for the team, showed up every day early with purpose and vision, stayed late daily and worked to inspire one another, looked out for one another's best interests along the way, remained focused on keeping your organization operating at the pinnacle of creative and generative efficiciency, only to discover that your management team has completely deceived you, is preparing the organization for bankruptcy, breakup and liquidation after cleverly securing golden parachutes for themselves and draining the pension fund, this video is for YOU.

And to all, a good night.

Let me make this perfectly clear. Teamwork is something that you do with your peers and your friends. Whenever management talks about "teamwork" they're trying to manipulate you. Especially if the "teamwork" message is combined with a "leadership" message.
