Annoying Co-Workers: A Field Guide

To have a successful sales career, you need to deal effectively with co-workers.  This is usually easy since sales pros are usually good with people.  However, there are some species of co-worker that require special handling.   To help you deal with these problematic varieties, I’ve collected a list of the most common irritating co-workers, along with advice on how to cope with them.

    Hey Geoffrey...

    I nearly burst my seams laughing at this one.

    But just one teeny comment... your depiction of the "Drama Queen" is a bit sexist!

    Especially this part, "Care and Feeding: Find excuses to send HER on business trips and useless meetings. If possible, get HER on interdepartmental committees for projects that you want to fail."

    Not all "Drama Queens" are women. There are men in the species as well, and they are just as bad, or worse.

    Uh... Are you saying that the species identified in the post as male are purely male? That there are no female "droners," for instance?

    Did anyone take note of the traits that applied to themselves? It's a good lesson in office behaviour.

    The (maybe not so) funny thing about all of these co-worker types is that our co-workers have probably pegged each of us too.

    Hi Geoffrey.

    The "Drama Queens" was an example of what I percieved as 'gender bias'.

    The same applies to the 'male' categorizations.

    Well, I could have written up all the annoying co-workers who are hermaphrodites but, frankly, I don't know any.

    I split the genders pretty evenly. If you take offense, it's not because of what I wrote, but because of how you think.

    Re Div's comment. I hear you on the drama queen tendencies. Maybe there should be an 11th category - the snoozer - My experience is there are a number of people who don't understand urgency - sometimes things are urgent happy

    I loved this sentence from you, Geoffrey:
    "If you take offense, it's not because of what I wrote, but because of how you think."

    I intend to use this as my own personal Weltanschauung and consider it carte blanche to do whatever I want, and no one can blame me for being offended! (And it seems that would include using German and French in the same sentence...)

    Actually, I'm differentiating between justified offense and unjustified offense. The accusation that I was being sexist is ridiculous; the error is in the commenter's thinking, which is clearly predicated on having a major chip on her shoulder when it comes to gender issues. Consider: if I had made the "drama queen" a man, it would have had a completely different meaning.
