
I’ve interviewed hundreds of sales gurus and sales professionals over the past half decade and I’d say that at least of quarter of them have some element of prayer mixed in with their idea of how to sell. It’s not always explicit, but I’ve been around long enough to know the code words. (e.g. “I feel really blessed….”)
My sister and her husband are in multi-level marketing and they’re both evangelical Christians. For them, the two sets of beliefs and activities are extremely interrelated. My mother, who’s been a Buddhist since the 1950s, was in B2B sales for 20 years and she meditated every day before working with her clients.
I personally think their emphasis on prayer and meditation is kind of odd, since both Christianity and Buddhism are religions that, in their original form, value poverty. Even so, people who pray or meditate regularly as part of their sales process swear that it helps and that they close more business as a result.
