Tony Robbins: Love Him or Hate Him?

I’ve been writing about motivation lately. One of my frequent contributors, Dave Stein, brought up Tony Robbins, who is probably the world’s most successful motivational speaker. Dave pointed out that people either seem to love or hate Robbins, so I’m kinda curious about how that sorts out with my brain trust (that’s you guys).

The short motivational video above is representative of Robbins’s current style and content. If you’ve not seen him speak, you might want to check it out before voting. (Note: Robbins swears a few times during the presentation, so if you’re easily offended you might want to pass on it.) In a future post, I’ll give my own opinion of the man and his teachings. Needless to say, comments are welcome.

What's YOUR opinion of Tony Robbins?

    Robbins is a Phoney

Here's the only motivational speaker a sales person should ever need:

    Hey, Wait a Second...

    Hi mbmattis,

It wasn't my intention to weigh in on this again... But, I can't help myself.

I can't see where "only" ever works in sales. I've always thought that and open mind, alternatives and options are the way.

RE: Tony Robbins: Love Him or Hate Him?

Different styles / messages motivate different people. Just as BMW drivers 'hate' Jags, isn't it the same with motivation? I think many go to see him for his 'star' and entertainment qualities. Personally I find when I listen to motivators (with an open mind) I always find one phrase or statement that hits home and makes the entire activity worthwhile - regardless of style.

The right speaker CAN help you

Tony Robbins has been a success "getting the job done", not just because he's entertaining-but because he reaches into the heart of the majority. Like he said, most of us have failed, some of us have given up...He mixes the message up to fit the needs of individuals. THAT is salesmanship. Reading what your "client/audience" needs. He isn't telling any of us something we haven't heard...he just says it with pizzaz!
So, is he a fake? Maybe...to some. Does he believe what he's selling? ABSOULUTELY!! You can't fake that.

RE: Tony Robbins: Love Him or Hate Him?

Well I have some inside scoop on Tony, why don't you ask him how he treats his assistants? A friend of mine is a pilot and he had the privilege to fly Mr. Tony to his destination on a couple
occasion well not once did he thank the pilots for a safe trip, or did he say a word to them at all. Also when the trip ended he did not help his female assistant at all. Everything that he was looking at on the table laptop books his cell phone etc. he just left it all for her to pick up and rushing her to hurry up. My friend was lost for words he couldn't believe that this was the man who's on tv who motivates people, but yet treat his asst. this way.

    Great Approach to Motivation

Tony has a great approach to motivation. I have seen him at many seminars and I really have to tell you that you need to be there to feel his energy. He is a man that has fought obstacles in his life to get to where he is, so as a person who has gone through similar issues, he has personally helped me. He is not for everyone, so that is nice that a video was included because it highlights his style.

What's with the foul language and the frumpy clothes? A total disconnect for me.

RE: Tony Robbins: Love Him or Hate Him?

Tony Robbins is an exceptional speaker. He has passion and belief. Whilst I don't subscribe to a number of his viewpoints it is obvious that many people do. If what he does is beneficial to people, more power to him.

I attended a seminar run by his organisation. (he wasn't there) I'm afraid I don't take kindly to music played at a volume just below the pain threshold. I also don't appreciate mass hysteria. I sat through fourteen hours of almost constant repetition of views, some of which were patently inaccurate. The message could have been communicated in about two hours.

Learning by ordeal is not my preferred method. Mr Robbins is no doubt a gifted indvidual, but many of his disciples are less so.

    maybe action is missing?

    well,
I think all those lectures are more like menu - if you like what you read or what you hear, actually you should try it for yourself, taste it and then find whether description complies with real experience.

Though, it is pretty naive to think motivational speaker, even if he is Tony Robbins himself, will do anything instead of you.

All those methods or habits should installed to make results. Its not about one day of seminar...(and even Rome wasn't built in a day wink

And I can tell you from my own experience - it works. Its odd,. but some of my BOOKS (without seminar) managed to change my life inevitably.

I strongly recommend ACTION upon seminars happy
