The Sales Machine blog was just honored with a “Best In Business” (BIB) award by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW).  Sales Machine won the “Online Blog Large” category, intended for sites that have more than 2.5 million unique visitors per month.  Here’s what the judges had to say:

“This blog is particularly relevant and useful to its audience, avoiding some of the often-repeated cliches in sales and instead encouraging its viewers to defy conventional wisdom. Its focus on how to sell during recession is a roll-up-your-sleeves approach that is neither Pollyanna nor Grim Reaper. The presentation is smooth with a number of elements, such as video, that fit well in the overall theme. It is a site to which viewers will return.”

I was aware that BNET had nominated Sales Machine for consideration (thanks to my excellent editor, Karen Steen) but am surprised that it actually won, since this blog has been pretty much one big improvisation from the very start.

All things considered, this award is more about you readers and commenters than it is about me.  It’s my understanding that SABEW is less interested in the blogger’s writing skills than the community that surrounds the blog and provides comments and suggestions.

And, frankly, in my view the Sales Machine community (i.e. sales folk) are smarter, more perceptive and better communicators than the rest of the business world.  So if anyone has a right to be proud of this award, it’s you guys, not me.  I’m just the messenger.

By the way, BNET itself also won an SABEW BIB award for Online General Excellence.  Well deserved, I think.

Great recognition, Geoff, and well deserved. Sometimes I think you're a little off base, but ALWAYS interesting, usually humorous and well worth the time to read. Thanks!
