A while back, I was flying the New York to Boston shuttle, and ended up sitting next to a woman who introduced herself as the CEO of a specialty clothing firm. Late thirties, attractive, and clearly competent.  Anyway, we start talking sales technique and she tells me, just as we’re pulling into the gate at Logan, that she learned the basics of sales and marketing while working as a high-priced call girl in New York City.  Here’s what she said, as I best remember it:

    I knew a jeweler in Atlantic City when gambling just started there. He said he found it easier to be a merchant to the rich. He sold to their vanity. They try to wow each other.
    A friend sells houses to the wealthy and these women are the same way. They don't cook yet want a kitchen with ALL the bells & whistles. They go out or order take out.
    The trick is to find peoples Hot button.
    Pretty women have an advantage with men.

    That was an interesting conversation. I think this boils down basically to your target market and corresponding pricing strategy.

    Every one agrees pricing is after all an artform if one decides to navigate away from cost+ models. What is the perceived value of your service? How can you bump up the percieved value of this service?

    Hats off to this lady who gave us all a lesson in Economics 101 - reduce supply to increase prices.
