Reader VT3000 makes a good point on the previous post about the pluses and minuses of working in corporate PR or for an agency — there ought to be a poll!

So, without further ado, here’s a poll on the subject. Read the previous post for my thoughts on the benefits and drawbacks of each type of job.

Would You Rather Work In-House or At a PR Agency?

When it comes to job security, consider that companies cut their agency's budget before they downsize inhouse staff.

I agree with NYC PR pro, that is so true. I would rather work in a pr dept of a company than in a pr ageny. (I wouldnt mind working in the pr dept of the pr agency ;)) One more thing, also, as pointed out by Mr. Jon Greer in the previous post, Exposure to many clients may lead to in-house job/career advancement, I have seen that many people in Asia take this route, the first work in PR agencies and then go on to the account company.

I would be interested to know how common it is for PR
Agency's to ban employees from taking jobs at client
    companies?

I see some agencies asking new hires to sign an
agreement to that effect. Given the long list of clients
at some firms, that can put a lot of potential
    employers off limits.

As for the survey, I've done both and found that the
ability to quickly implement new PR initiatives is far
better in-house. Client review time is a real problem.

I agree with cbowen2 - it is much easier to quickly implement new PR initiatives when you're in-house.

Plus, there's a real benefit to working in-house and having access to the sales/business teams.
