Maybe It's Time to Start a Vlog

A lot of people are still struggling with the notion of whether blogging is something that they will have to do in order to remain competitive. In general, I believe the answer is a qualified ‘yes.’

I don’t think you’ve got to create a journalistic blog (like this one) — trust me, it’s a fair amount of work. But I do believe that increasingly, consumers and customers will turn to businesses that have posted fresh Internet content on their sites, and conversely, will have a harder time locating companies with static web sites.

Rather than thinking narrowly about the blogging — that you’ve got to have fresh witticisms everyday or it won’t work — think about what you find interesting on the web — links, pictures, videos — and consider posting those.

That’s what Doug Simon did, and since his business — DS Simon Productions — is a video production company, he did what came naturally: he started a Vlog (or Video Blog). He’s happy he did.

“We’re getting more than 100,000 hits a month,” Simon says.

Simon’s vlog focuses on video interviews with PR industry leaders, such as this one with MWW’s Michael Kempner. “I figured, if you aren’t interested in what Doug has to say, you might be interested in what Mike Kempner has to say.”

Simon, naturally, is an enthusiastic proponent of video. “Video is an authentic style of communication. The camera doesn’t lie,” he says.

    New Media Communication

Increasingly, it seems more important to join the conversation on some level. It doesn't so much matter if it is with a "traditional" blog or video blog. The advent of Twitter is an excellent tool as well for today's communicators. Like you stated in your article, today one cannot afford to be left out of the New Media movement.
