You know a trend is going mainstream when it takes hold among the biggest companies in the country. You can add blogging to the list, as a full 10% of the Fortune 500 now maintain some number of blogs about their companies and products.

This insight comes via John Cass, who is tracking the adoption of blogging by the Fortune 500 as part of his larger practice, which includes consulting on corporate blogging. He is helping to maintain and update a wiki to track Fortune 500 blogs here.

John is actually doing a nice job analyzing Fortune 500 blogs and grading them for their usefulness. You can track his progress here.

For those of yocokeblog.jpgu with a sweet tooth, one of the newest Fortune 500 companies to blog is Coca-Cola. Here’s a link to their blog, which is what I would dub a “brand-sweetening” blog about (in their words) “a wide variety of topics, ranging from brand history to the value of collectibles.”

Did you know that Jon Greer is available to speak to your company or PR agency about PR and media relations? Contact Jon for more information!
