With nearly 4,000 iPhone applications available, it can be a little overwhelming to find the ones that can make your life easier. Luckily, there are resources to help you sort out the essentials. The web site ManagementCourses.com, for example, recently published its picks for the 50 best iPhone applications for MBA students. Here are 10 from the list that make the cut for business managers as well.

1. Facebook — Take your network on the go with this app.

2. Thumb Jot — Easy-to-use note taking app.

3. Google Calendar — Stay on top of your appointments when you’re away from the office.

4. SugarSync — Allows you to access your desktop through your phone.

5. iTalk Recorder — Typing notes on a tiny keypad isn’t your thing? This app lets you dictate notes.

6. Google News — If you didn’t pick up a morning paper or you’re away from your favorite newspaper’s web site, catch up on the latest headlines.

7. Torch — Useful project manager that allows you to attach Google docs and other files to each project.

8. BudgetBuster — Those daily afternoon lattes can add up. This app helps you see where you’re spending too much during work and after.

9. iBillTo — Keep track of how many hours you’ve spent and billing rates for all of your clients’ projects.

10. MyNetDiary — If you’re watching what you eat at business lunches and trying to avoid office snacks, this app will keep you accountable for your calorie consumption throughout the day.

Are there other iPhone apps helping you do your job? Leave a comment and let other readers know which ones are working for you.

If you are to manage goals, you may also check out http://www.GoalsOnTrack.com, though not strictly an iPhone app, still a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and has time tracking. It's clear, focused, easy to navigate, worth a try.

Weird - I did a post like this on our blog on the same day!
    see: http://blog.careermee.com/2009/05/14/four-iphone-apps-for-mbas-the-clever-and-the-practical/

the four that I would add are Cardsnap (take pictures of your business cards and have the contact details added to your phonebook), Mimoplus (voice recorder that can record from one minute ago), ACTprinter (print to your iphone), and Stagehand (turn your iphone into a presentation clicker that displays your notes, and allows you to spotlight points on the screen).
