There’s a lot happening in the world of VoIP. Cisco is said to be drawing up plans to buy Avaya, a $6 billion telecom firm with impressive VoIP capabilities. Deutsche Telekom just bought a 5 percent stake in Jajah — an innovative VoIP service provider that frees users from computers and headsets. And the Sony PlayStation Portable is going to be outfitted with software that enables it to work as a VoIP phone on top of a gaming console. All this VoIP action raises the question: what exactly is VoIP? Watch this video and learn why making calls over the Internet is cool.

    VoIP over MPLS

In order to truly ensure that your VoIP system runs as smoothly as it can, it is important to take out as many variants as possible. One of those that can really boost performance not only in the number of simultaneous calls and clarity is MPLS. A network that has been designed from the top down with MPLS will layer the traffic in such a way that, for instance, your VoIP will get the highest precedence over other traffic going into your network. Another step is to decide on one particular carrier and dedicate your network to their MPLS setup. This will take you leaps and bounds in getting your VoIP up to the level that need to function in the business world.
