Meltdown. Turmoil. Crisis. Downturn. Call it what you will, but right now looks pretty crummy, a time when opportunities for advancement seem few.

But take heart, says management consultant and author, Vince Thompson. In this new BNET video he says that right now is the time when great managers can really excel, and the management wheat will be cut out from the chaff.

For Great Managers: Now is the Time is one of the latest in our new BNET video series, Memo, in which BNETers get their rants and raves on. Other titles include:

Company Spin All Spun Out? — Thompson says that a company’s greatest PR asset is its workforce and companies should spend more on internal communication so that the message employees share externally is a positive one.

Jet Blue Reducing Customer Perks — In this video, Thompson gets up into JetBlue CEO Dave Barger’s cockpit about the airline charging $9 for clean pillows, a stunningly bad PR move.

Our sister pub, ZDNet, has also gotten into the rant business with these BNET video Memos:

Dan Farber airs his opinions of the MacBook Air

Larry Dignan wonders out loud if the iPhone will hit its 2008 estimates

Sam Diaz poo-poos Microsoft’s $300 million ad campaign, and says the new Cuil search is, well, not really all that cool.
