Every day on BNET, we’re impressed by all the sharp (and sharp-tongued) comments our users leave on our feature articles, news and management blogs, videos, and other offerings. They almost always add smart insights, no matter what the topic. And no wonder, right? Our users are the real experts — they’re managers, execs, and other key players working inside companies of every size, across dozens of industries. So it’s time we handed over the mic — a real mic — to you.
Got something beyond a simple comment to make on one of our blogs? Think you could be writing that blog yourself? I invite you to check out BNET’s new community blogging tool, which allows users to submit their own posts to any of our 11 blogs on BNET Industries. Here’s how it works:
1. From our Industries front door, or from the front door of any individual industry, you can submit a post by clicking on the “Submit Your Own Post” button:
2. Choose the blog you want to write for: Just “click here to add a blog.” Be sure to include a link back to your own blog or site, if you have one, and then click “Save.” To submit a post, go into the “Submissions” tab and click “Post new content” next to the appropriate blog at the bottom of your screen.
If your post is approved by our editors, it will appear in that blog.
There are, of course, some important ground rules:
What We Want:
- Posts that are interesting, succinct, fair-minded and on topic. Bring the funny if you’d like – it’s always appreciated.
- Posts that challenge our readers and tell them something they didn’t already know. Everyone already has way much to read online, so use your claim on everyone’s time responsibly.
- Guest posts by insiders of all stripes — corporate executives, managers, mail-room clerks, or what have you – are more than welcome.
What We Don’t Want:
- Press releases or other self-promotional mumbo-jumbo. If you’re writing on behalf of a company or other organization, please take the time to frame some original points or to address another writer’s argument directly without resorting to canned sound bites.
- Personal attacks and profanity. (Those are the rules for our own bloggers, and as long as you’re a guest here, they’re the rules for you, too.) You don’t have to treat other posters – even our own bloggers – with kid gloves, but know when enough is enough. Use your common sense.
- Posts that lack focus, that repeat previous posts, that are trollish (that is, intended specifically to get a rise out of someone), or that flog a subject to death.
- Spam, pornography, hate speech, overt copyright violations and similar nastiness. This should go without saying, but for some reason some people don’t get it unless we spell it out.
- Anonymous posts. If you can’t stand up and say it under your own name, it’s probably something you shouldn’t be saying at all.
Additional Notes:
Your posts may be edited for style and content. Please don’t take it personally – we’re just trying to ensure that the insights and conversations flow as smoothly as possible.
Please target your post to the appropriate industry. Where there’s legitimate confusion – for instance, should an item about Google go into advertising, media or technology? – one of our editors may decide to redirect your post. Again, don’t take it personally.
This is a new tool on BNET, and we’re already working on improvements and launching this feature on all of our blogs, not just those on BNET Industries. Feel free to suggest some fixes right here — as always, we welcome those comments.
