    Improve productivity, find mor time.

This was a useful little piece on the everyday jabber that gets in teh way fo effective managemnet. Sure firing the secretary save a wage but the manager's wage is three times that of the secretary. This is a false economy ans is transactional management of organisational culture at its best, if you work in a place like this y9u may as well leave, it ain't going to get any better, just more rules and policies and procedures endlessly paraded out telling you how to stay safe and conservative in your littel box.
    Good luck.

I thought it was interesting that the speaker recommended getting off of newsletter distribution lists as they are a vehicle for advertising when he is on a program that is attached to an email newsletter, which was preceded by an advertisement!

    Getting rid of CC'd email

The advice about telling staff to stop forwarding copies of email to management is key. Even better is to create a filter that throws any CC'd emails in a separate folder (labelled "CC" or whatever) instead of having them land in your inbox. The odds are good that copied emails are just CYA info, and as such low priority.

    More on CC

I sometimes include a note at the bottom to tell people why they've been copied on the e-mail, something like this:

cc: Bill, be sure to add this to your calendar.

This works best with short messages, since the copied person may not get to the bottom of a longer message to see the note you've left them. For longer messages, forwarding a copy is better with a specific message to the person.

Another danger of using CC is the dreaded "Reply to all" where those people may have been relevant to the initial discussion but not to the subsequent conversations.
