Co-founders Helen Russell and Brooke McDonnell partner with farmers who practice sustainable land stewardship in developing countries. In addition, Equator uses a coffee roaster that burns 80 percent less natural gas than a traditional roaster, and a composter that turns coffee waste into fertilizer.

How Blockbuster Could Find a Happy Ending

Analysts are playing their sad violins for debt-saddled Blockbuster (BBI). This week, the departure of Carl Icahn from its board cast a melancholy shadow on the company’s future prospects, along with the company’s recent downward revision to its forecast for 2009 earnings. Throw in the subplot of Netflix’s unexpectedly strong results and upstart store-kiosk rental chain Redbox’s rapid growth, and Blockbuster seems scripted for a tragic end. But there’s still hope for a turnaround story here.
