3 Tips For Boosting Self-Confidence

Most of us are keenly aware of our leadership shortcomings, faults that chip away at our self-confidence. But too few of us ever inventory our strengths, a practice that can increase our confidence in our own abilities. Everyone reading this has a list of accomplishments in the workplace. Let’s build on what we are already confident about.

One of my favorite bloggers on Harvard Business Publishing, John Baldioni, offers three questions to ask ourselves to unearth this confidence.

  1. What do you do well? “This question opens the door for you to itemize the abilities that have enabled you to succeed to date.”
  2. Why should people follow you? “You need a strong sense of self to lead others, so consider how you assess problems and find solutions.”
  3. What have you done to earn the trust of others? “This question should provoke a recall of what you have done to instill followership.”
