appointment.jpgYou meet with clients to talk business. You meet with your boss to discuss performance. You meet with co-workers to manage projects. But do you ever meet with yourself? Lifehack.org thinks you should consider scheduling a “personal appointment,” a block of time when you do nothing but address five key questions:

  1. What are the results I’m getting in the different areas of my life?
  2. What mistakes am I making frequently?
  3. What do I need to stop?
  4. What extra energy/money/time do I have to invest?
  5. Where would that investment create the best returns?

Most of us probably tackle these questions fleetingly, as they pop into our heads. The idea here is to designate some time so you can sit and focus on each question — and come up with some answers. Read the post for a more complete explanation. What do you think? Would you ever schedule an appointment with yourself?

    Making an Appt. With Yourself

I've done some of this in the past and not only does it give you some insight into what you're REALLY doing, it prepares you for discussions with your management as well. You're thoughts are clear and cogent and you can make some real progress to tackle issues that may be making you less effective or areas where you need a little support to help pave the way.

RE: Should You Schedule an Appointment With Yourself?

What strikes me most about the five questions to ask in my appointment with myself is that they focus not on the usual New Year's resolution format of plotting a new course, but rather on correcting the course that I have (presumably) already laid out -- a subtle but powerful distinction. It requires a discerning look backwards as a first step, thereby equipping me to move forward with the benefit of past experience firmly in mind.

I value this approach and will willingly schedule time with myself to ponder the insights that emerge.

This is not a totally new concept, as it runs parallel toward putting your business plan down in writing.

Achieving personal goals toward time management and family quality events is no less important than being successful at work.
Write down the incremental steps toward your goals in pencil. You should be flexible for life's curveballs.

Conduct a little research in this endeavor, and you will create time with a higher quality of life.

I do it all the time.... It does help - then you start to ignore those appointments cos you know they're just with yourself so you won't offend anyone else. But it helps much better than not doing it at all. I'm just saying don't expect miracles that's all.
