iphone-tether2.jpgOut of the box, the iPhone can’t double as a wireless modem for your notebook. (Heck, even my $99 Palm Centro can do that!) Would you even want it to, though, given its reliance on AT&T’s pokey EDGE network? Well, when there’s no Wi-Fi hotspot to be found, pokey Internet access is better than no Internet access. Lifehacker shows you how to hack your iPhone so it can pull wireless-modem duty. Word of warning, though: It’s not a novice-friendly process, and it requires you to “jailbreak” your iPhone, which is a bit risky. On the other hand, it’s slightly less complicated than our previous post on iPhone tethering. If you’re the adventurous sort and want your iPhone to really start earning its keep, give this trick a try.
