When I want word processing on the Web, I instinctively reach for Google Docs — mostly because I’m so steeped in other Google apps. But you know what? Zoho Writer is the superior Web word-processor, what with its Microsoft Office Plug-In and the various new features it just rolled out. The latter include:

  • A new “page” view for documents (alas, it’s view-only: You can’t edit while in this mode)
  • Support for headers and footers
  • Spell-check in 43 languages
  • Improved importing and exporting of Word-compatible Doc files
  • E-mail notification when someone comments on one of your public documents

All in all, a nice batch of updates for an already robust online app. If you haven’t tried Zoho Writer (or, for that matter, any of the Zoho apps), you really should. It’s free, incredibly practical, and considerably better than Google Docs. [via Webware]
