Much as we all love Gmail, there’s always room for improvement. Lifehacker’s Better Gmail 2 is a compiled collection of hacks (actually, Greasemonkey scripts rolled into a single Firefox extension) that adds optional extra features to the Web-mail service. These features include:
- Attachment icons Instead of the standard paperclip icon that denotes an attachment, you’ll see icons denoting the kind of attachment: Word document, PDF, Zip file, etc.
- Mailto with Gmail Adds a “compose message in Gmail” link alongside the the e-mail links in Web pages.
- Macros keyboard shortcuts Adds custom keyboard shortcuts to Gmail.
Nothing earth-shattering here, but a nice batch of tweaks for hardcore Gmail users. Better Gmail 2 requires Firefox and the new version of Gmail (which rolled out to most users last week). It’s free.
