Much as we all love Gmail, there’s always room for improvement. Lifehacker’s Better Gmail 2 is a compiled collection of hacks (actually, Greasemonkey scripts rolled into a single Firefox extension) that adds optional extra features to the Web-mail service. These features include:
- Attachment icons Instead of the standard paperclip icon that denotes an attachment, you’ll see icons denoting the kind of attachment: Word document, PDF, Zip file, etc.
- Mailto with Gmail Adds a “compose message in Gmail” link alongside the the e-mail links in Web pages.
- Macros keyboard shortcuts Adds custom keyboard shortcuts to Gmail.
Nothing earth-shattering here, but a nice batch of tweaks for hardcore Gmail users. Better Gmail 2 requires Firefox and the new version of Gmail (which rolled out to most users last week). It’s free. If you want to get more from Gmail without actually installing anything, check out these tips.
