Internet Message Access Protocol, or IMAP, is a wonderful thing. It provides immediate two-way synchronization between your mail server and one or more mail clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, your mobile phone, or whatever). Any changes made in one location are automatically reflected everywhere else. So, for instance, if you compose and send a few new messages on your phone, you’ll see them in the Sent Items folder the next time you run Outlook.
Gmail just added IMAP to its already robust e-mail service. Everything you do via the Web interface is reflected in other locations (including the iPhone), and vice versa.
