hd-tune.jpgAs a general rule, I don’t like those massive utility-software suites that promise to solve all your PC’s problems and keep it running smoothly; very often it seems like they have the opposite effect. But I do like “little” programs that perform hit-and-run fixes, cleanups, etc. Web Worker Daily lists a handful of these tune-up programs, including:

Tune it Up. PC users who have installed a large number of programs on a given system can benefit from running RegCleaner. It’s a very easy-to-use way to eliminate obsolete registry entries from software that you installed long ago. On the topic of keeping your system clean, I’m also a big fan a little app called StartupRun. Its sole purpose is to display the list of all applications that are automatically loaded when you boot Windows. You can easily specify that you don’t want particular applications to start automatically, and it even highlights in pink any adware or spyware that you may be loading.

The story also spotlights Windows- and Mac-specific utilities along with a handy hard-drive tune-up program. To the author’s list I would add perennial favorite CCleaner (a new version of which was recently released) and Revo Uninstaller. How will you pay for all this system-tweaking goodness? Not a penny — it’s all freeware. Woo!
