ideaspot.jpgIf you’re a marketing company, how do you market yourself? Easy: Give away your services. Texas-based The Marketing Spot is trying exactly that, offering free advice to small businesses (”small” meaning under $3 million in revenue per year). All you do is fill out an online form with a few details about your outfit, then sit back and cross your fingers:

Every week we take marketing requests from small businesses around the country. Then we put our marketing minds together to give a free marketing idea to at least one business.

The ideas appear on the company’s IdeaSpot blog, which you can check out now to see some existing ideas. Will The Marketing Spot use your information to market its paid services to you? They don’t say, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t. Even so, I think this is some smart marketing, and worth a shot if you’re looking for some professional advice. If not, you could always copy the idea and give away advice of your own to help drive business. [via Inc.]

    From The Marketing Spot

    Rick,
Thanks for highlighting our Idea Spot blog. I just wanted to clarify one of your comments. We do not use the information from our case study businesses to market our services to them. In fact, we are now inviting them to attend our webinar series free after we feature that business in a case study.

Why do it then? We do these case studies for three reasons, to build credibility in our business through our blog content, to gain a much broader spectrum of experience by working with businesses throughout the country, and because it's fun!
