If, in an effort to consolidate your e-mail, you use your regular POP e-mail address in messages that you send through Gmail, then you might be frustrated that the From field contains “on behalf of” in some e-mail clients (like Outlook).
As in, “Dave Johnson, on behalf of Dave Johnson.”
So annoying. So confusing. Well, Google has finally released a way to fix that little e-mail problem.
Actually, the fix is pretty simple: You just specify your own SMTP server - not Google’s - as the outbound mail server. When you do that, Google no longer has to add an “on behalf of” disclaimer to your messages, since the message doesn’t actually pass through a Gmail server on the way out the door.
To do that, visit your Accounts settings and click edit info. Then choose to “Use your other email provider’s SMTP servers” and fill in the server info.
