burnout.jpgYou know the feeling: You just can’t slog through another day of the same work, the same meetings, the same everything. It’s called burnout, and it happens to just about everyone at one time or another. Before you do something drastic (like sending your boss an “I quit!” e-mail), check out Web Worker Daily’s tips for coping with job burnout. For example:

Get some help  Maybe all of your tasks are satisfying but there are just too many of them. Explore whether you can outsource some of them (if you work for yourself) or get another employee to help you (if you work for someone else). Perhaps outsourcing some of your personal chores would free enough time to allow you to get back on top of your work responsibilities.

Other suggestions include switching projects, offloading some responsibilities, starting a side job, and taking a sabbatical (which, alas, isn’t an option for everyone). Have you found a worthwhile way to cope with burnout? Help your fellow workers and post it in the Comments! Photo by Pal Berge.

Job Burnout is a symptom, we need to also look at the cause

Job burnout is not a cause it is a symptom, and while the tips on how to deal with it were good...they did not address the cause. Addressing the cause is important and often CRITICAL.

If values and core beliefs are aligned on the job, burn out is a signal that one needs to build higher emotional intelligence, improved communication, whole brained thinking.

Thinks that are not only doable, but they go a long way in not only treating the symptom but addressing the problem.

    Stop blaming the employee!

Job burnout comes from alot of things and yes, it is a symptom of a larger problem but DON'T put the problem solely on the employee!!
Many times the problem lies with poor management, lack of support on your job, "do more with less" mentality, or the new phrase "do less with less" which translates to "do even more than before with less than before"!!

I've worked for the Federal government for almost 23 years and love my job but HATE the politicing, poor management, more work and less support that I see each year.......and every year I still hear in the media how us civil service workers are "lazy slobs that are over-paid, under-worked and have cushy benefits that are wrung from over-taxed hard-working Americans. I pay taxes too and you know what?...I work hard too to support our troops who are fighting (whether I believe in the war or not) but I do my job and I do it well and the number "lazy slob" civil service employees are pretty few that I've seen.

Job burnout, in my opinion, is more to blame on the organization and it's culture and management and less to blame on the employee!!
