From the Better-Late-Than-Never Dept., Palm has finally unveiled a Vista-compatible version of Palm Desktop — good news for countless owners of Palm PDAs and Treo smartphones. The new version supports synchronization with Outlook 2007 and allows users to install applications and files (which, incredibly, required a third-party workaround up until now). However, it doesn’t come with the Quick Install Tool (which could hamper some third-party software installations), and you can’t yet synchronize VersaMail via USB. And for the moment it’s compatible with only about a half-dozen Palm devices (see the site for details). Even so, this long-overdue update is a welcome arrival, even if it is just a beta.
