If you’re like me, you are routinely frustrated by the sharp line that separates your near-obsessive Star Trek role playing from your professional life at work. Well, no more: Sophos has released a real anti-virus app that just happens to be in Klingon. Don’t believe me? Check out the video.

Make no mistake: This program is for real. Klingon Anti-Virus uses the Sophos anti-virus engine. It performs on-demand scans, and can detect spyware, viruses, adware, and zero-day threats. In keeping with the software’s theme, though, Klingon Anti-Virus also promises to find Betazoid sub-ether porn dialers and Tribbles. (I’m confused: Isn’t sub-ether a reference to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?)

Potential techno babble gaffes notwithstanding, Klingon Anti-Virus is free and works with Windows XP and Vista, among other operating systems, but — and this sounds important — “this software has compatibility issues with the version of msxml4.dll used by cloaking devices on Romulan-modded D7-class battle cruisers. Installing this software on such vessels is punishable by ordeal of Ginst’a'Ed.”

Enjoy the Klingon Anti-Virus/YMCA mashup in the video up top.

Oy. On the one hand, my beanie propeller is spinning wildly. On the other... It's just a TV show! Fess up, Dave: You're behind this, aren't you. That Halloween you dressed up as Worf is a dead giveaway...

This is kind of cool in a geeky way, but personally, I try to avoid software that's written in a language I don't personally have the ability to understand.

Do I have a virus or is it just asking to install a new set of definitions? The only way to find out for sure: Keep Michael Dorn on your speed dial.
