Twitter — a business tool? If our recent Guy to Guy on the business value of social networking is any guide, you’d expect me to dismiss Twitter out of hand. But according to the Small Biz Resource Blog, Apple pioneer and all-around tech guru Guy Kawasaki thinks Twitter is one of the most important business tools available for evangelizing your business.

Kawasaki believes in Twitter because “you don’t know who the best evangelist will be for your product or service,” so Twitter allows for the strength in numbers needed to build awareness and support for your company. Read the Small Biz Resource Blog for all of his tips, but here are the best of the best:

  • Automatically follow everyone who follows you on Twitter.
  • Have a goal for using Twitter and a way to measure how you’re doing at achieving that goal.
  • Monitor what people are saying about you by searching for your ID, company name, and industry segment.
  • Set up searches for things you’d like to get known for, and then automatically tweet a response when that search term comes up.
  • Make it easy to share by adding a Share on Twitter button to your Website.

"Automatically follow everyone who follows you on Twitter."
It seems that someone has no idea what twitter is about

The best one is missing: "Don't Twitter". Depending on who your customers are and what your business is would likely dictate whether you would even want to entertain jumping into this. Twitter will fade, just like all the other fads that have come and gone in social networking circles - it's just a matter of how long of a ride it enjoys.

There's a lot of MLM twitters who fill your home page with
MLM trash, then there's the "business consultants" who
continually post well known "tips"... I ended up "stop
following" a whole bunch, and just follow a few who are either
interesting or can contribute to my business in one way or
    another.

Gosh, something in this brain of mine makes me count. When someone offers 10 tips, I count the tips given, and when they add up to five, it leaves me wondering, WHERE are the other five tips??? Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am working on the Twitter thing -- several of my clients use Twitter and I gave in after setting up an account months ago and leaving it relativley dormant until I started getting notices that a bunch of people were following me.
I have actually gotten buisness from LinkedIn becuase we all know why we are there -- to do buisnesss. Not so much with Facebook as the 'bleed' between the personal and professional profiles concerns me.
