meebo2.jpgThe iPhone famously lacks an instant-messaging client. A fast-working developer churned out iPhoneChat, but it works only with AIM accounts and has limited features. Now comes word that Meebo, the universal IM service that runs inside a Web browser, will indeed work on the iPhone. Although you could always log into Meebo via the phone’s Safari browser, the lack of a “send” button prohibited the actual transmission of instant messages. Reports indicate that the Meebo team has added a “Go” button to the iPhone’s keyboard so you can send your IMs on their merry way.

I’m a huge Meebo fan, but because I’m still waiting for my iPhone to arrive, I can’t put this to the test. Meebo hasn’t officially announced iPhone support yet, but there’s sufficient anecdotal evidence floating around to indicate it’s working.
