Good news, Google fans: A new beta of Google Sync automatically synchronizes your online contacts and calendars with your mobile phone.
I think the above video pretty much says it all, but if you’d rather read than watch, here’s the scoop:
For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, Google Sync allows you to get your Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar events to your phone. Once you set up Sync on your phone, it will automatically begin synchronizing your address book and calendar in the background, over-the-air, so you can attend to other tasks. Sync uses push technology so any changes or additions to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device in minutes.
If you’re a BlackBerry user, all this may sound familiar: Google Sync for BlackBerry has been around for a while. If you don’t have a ‘Berry, iPhone, or WinMo phone, Google Sync can tap the SyncML protocol (found on various Nokia and Sony Ericsson handsets) to deliver two-way contact synchronization.
Needless to say, this will come in mighty handy for anyone who relies heavily on Google Calendar. I just wish Google had a more robust contact manager — something to compete with Outlook, perhaps? Then I’d be a lot more inclined to use it. [via Google Mobile Blog]
