ayenotes.JPGDoes taking notes in meetings make you feel like a court stenographer? AyeNotes is an online note-taking app that simplifies your job with auto-completing words and phrases

AyeNotes is disarmingly simple; when you log in, you get little more than a blank page in which to start typing. Sure, it’s handy to have access to or notes online, but the real power of AyeNotes comes in when you create some clips, which are like autotext on a BlackBerry. When you type the shorthand version of a clip and hit the spacebar, the complete text is automatically entered into your note, potentially saving you tons of typing. You can see all your clips and their shortcuts on the side of the screen, so you don’t have to commit them to memory.

Unfortunately, AyeNotes is so austere that there isn’t even any sort of getting started guide on the site. Like some sort of Webward pioneer, you’ll need to experiment on your own to figure out how it all works. Personally, I still don’t know what the Tags are for, since you don’t appear to be able to search or filter using them. And it took me a while to understand that you can create different “contexts” for your clips, which filters your autotext options depending upon what kind of job, project, or meeting you are in. Essentially, it allows you to develop different clip libraries for different situations. Bottom line: AyeNotes  is not elegant, but it can be a real timesaver if you take lots of notes.

RE: Take More Efficient Notes with AyeNotes

Seems to me that this is the same function as AutoText in MS Word. Type the first few letters (like gent) as you've taught the application, it fills in the rest (i.e., Gentlemen), and press the Enter key to accept or keep typing if you want a different word. I haven't had WordPerfect on my work PC for years, but I'm sure they have something similar.

AyeNotes is probably fine if you don't have the major word processors, but you also may not be able to get online during a meeting (no WiFi at the client's office), so having something right on your PC rates higher, in my book at least.
