Just announced at CES, the PogoPlug is a little gizmo that connects any USB hard drive to any network router, effectively giving you network-attached storage (a.k.a. NAS) on the cheap(er).
Traditional NAS systems can cost hundreds of dollars. The PogoPlug sells for $79 (as part of a “preorder special” — it’ll cost $99 later on). You can pick up a 500GB USB hard drive for as little as $70, giving you a complete solution for under $150.
The advantage to such a setup, of course, is easy file sharing — not just between PCs, but between your drive and other users. The PogoPlug also enables remote access to your files (i.e., it creates a Web-accessible server) and works in tandem with an iPhone app for on-the-go file access.
Looks like a winner to me! But we’ll have to wait till March to find out: That’s when order fulfillment is slated to begin. [via Gizmodo]
