logoinstant.jpgNeed a logo to adorn your new enterprise? If you’re handy with Photoshop, Paint.NET, or any other program that supports PSD files, check out the selection of free-to-download logos at LogoInstant.

The site currently offers about 25 attractive, professional-looking logos (with more being added daily), all of which are free to download. Most are in Photoshop format, though some are available as Adobe Illustrator (AI) files as well. Because they’re layered, you can easily replace the placeholder text with your company name.

As someone who appreciates good design, I really like these logos. The only downside, of course, is that the one you pick won’t be original — dozens or even hundreds of other businesses might adopt the same one. Still, for a blossoming Web business or new local enterprise, these are definitely worth a look. [via gHacks]

These aren't logos by any definition. In reality, this is more akin to using clipart in your identity, which is neither professional or unique. Your logo should help set your brand apart from your competitors and make you memorable.

I know times are tough, but you get what you pay for. Nothing usually begets nothing.

I think it depends on the business. A small Web startup with limited/no resources could adopt one of these to help convey a more professional image. I'm all for paying a designer for something unique, but only if your budget allows. To me these are like "training" logos.

I would only go this direction if I were flat broke, even then I think I wouldn't. As rtooms said, this akin to using clip art for your logo, which is a bad idea if you plan on building a successful and unique brand identity.

Yeah, no go for me either. Me and friend threw our origional logo together in an hour. Plus it was fun working with it and we laughed alot trying to make it right. We also argued over a few specs which showed us we could work together and I ended up hiring him full time eventually as a web developer.

If you are a good business person, you will find the resources to do something that fits, even if it is temporary for nothing or next to nothing. At least it's yours. There are legal implications to think about too... nothing like a cease and desist order at your door.

RE: Get a Free Logo Design From LogoInstant

It's good to see that not everyone has fallen for this gimmick. In LogoInstants own terms and conditions they state:

???You may not claim copyright to any logo designs you download from this website even after you have performed modifications on it..."

Not a good way for any business to start out. Their terms also go on to say:

???We take no responsibility for the way you use the designs (graphics and logo names) provided on this site. We are not reponsible for any damages of any kind arising (if any) that can happen when you use or modify it.???

So if you do decide to download a logo, you stand the chance of infringing on other people's rights and possible legal altercations. And the chances of legal trouble only grow as more people download the same logo. Besides that, why would you want a logo that is the same or close to hundreds or even thousands of other people's logos? It defeats the very purpose of a logo: to differentiate yourself from your competition.
