pocket-projector.jpgBefore you spring for a pricey, bulky, fragile projector, check out what’s coming next month: the 3M MPro110, a projector that’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

The lucky folks at Popular Science got a sneak peek at the MPro110; here’s a sampling of what they had to say about it:

The MPro110 is pretty basic looking on the outside—just a grey box. But it gets the job down. A VGA input lets you plug in a laptop; and the composite video jack will take output from a digital camera, PSP, iPod, iPhone, or most any handheld device (though video-out is still pretty rare on cellphones). A thumbwheel on the front allows you to focus.

Oh, heavens, my beanie propeller is spinning madly for this thing. PopSci says the MPro110 will go on sale September 30 for $359. It remains to be seen, of course, if it can really fill the shoes of a traditional business projector. But as a conversation piece and super-friendly travel companion, it’s definitely a winner.

This, combined with an eeePC or similarly tiny laptop, would make a great ultra-portable presentation rig!

Looks interesting - what type of projector bulb does it use, how often will it need to be replaced and of course the most important question, what is the cost of this bulb?

I think the company is planning to build these into phones at some point, though I'm not sure I see the appeal of that. Build it into an iPod, on the other hand, and you're golden!

Before investing in a pocket projector, I think it is important to note that a carry projection screen is just as important for a lasting presentation experience. There are many quality projection screens for under $100 on www.alltecstores.com that are tripod, folding and easy to carry within a carrying case. This way there are no kinks to your presentation!
