gmapswalking.jpgWe’re fat. Gas is expensive and pollutes. It’s a great way to see a new city. It’s a nice day out. Whatever the reason, we should be walking more. Whether it’s to work, to dinner or just around, a good walk burns calories, clears your head, and cures tiredness.

A new feature on Google Maps will now tell you how to get around on foot to unfamiliar places. According to Lifehacker commenters, it seems to work by ignoring the directionality on one way streets, removing highways and no-pedestrian zones, and maybe even avoiding the steeper hills.

Bonus: Google also just added a public transit button on some of its Google Maps directions as well. Like the walking button, it tells you how long the trip will take, but it also includes useful info like fares and alternate routes.
