glary.jpgMy computer started crapping out on me yesterday, and I realized that it might have something to do with the fact that I had six different programs running: Word, Firefox, GIMP, Filezilla, PowerPoint, and Adobe. Or maybe it was because I had 20 different Firefox windows open along with eight different documents.

I previously installed more RAM to combat my laptop’s unwillingness to deal with my excesses, but I still manage to overload my system some times. So, following a recommendation from Web Worker Daily, I downloaded Glary Utilities. Besides for doing the usual stuff to clear out the crap (checking the registry for errors, deleting temporary files, etc.), Glary Utilities offers me a memory optimization module that I can set to automatically increase my free memory whenever it dips below a certain point. I’ve only been using it for a couple of days now, but I’ve already noticed fewer PC slow downs.

    Add Startup Delayer

I would pair this with Startup Delayer (which I've posted about here a few times). It helps computers boot faster by delaying selected programs from starting immediately. An absolutely essential utility.
