failure.jpgCan’t figure out why you’re not ascending the corporate ladder? Maybe it’s because you’re unknowingly practicing some of the 12 Ways to Become an Utter Failure at Work. Written with tongue planted firmly in cheek (but with a serious underlying message), the article shows how office workers can really make their work lives miserable. For example:

  • Brown Nose Always leave the office 30 seconds after your manager and get there 30 seconds before he arrives. Everybody in the office will cotton on to what you’re doing, but the manager will be in blissful ignorance and think you’re committed to the company cause. Roll your eyes at the boss whilst shaking your head every time somebody leaves early or arrives late.
  • Undermine Spend hours on Facebook, MySpace and dating sites looking for dirt on colleagues. When you find something, accidentally send an e-mail with the link to the entire company. If that’s too risky, borrow somebody else’s computer or just print pictures off at home and surreptitiously stick them all over the office when it’s empty. Blame Colin from dispatch.

The author also “recommends” gossiping, demoralizing others, and hording ideas. What methods do you use to self-destruct at work? Hit the Comments and keep them to yourself. Photo: ‘Derek J’ by Phil Watt.

Don't Dignify BNET with This Kind of Content

There is an overall decline in civility everywhere in our society, starting at the top of government and perpetually in the media. We do not need help on how to screw your fellow workers, tongue-in-cheek or not. As a society we need constructive business advice on how to "play well with others" -- increasingly difficult as the whole make-up of the work world shifts from Baby Boomer bosses to Gen X,Y and Z. Let's put energy into working effectively with one another and learning how to respect each other and our differences instead of giving space to mean-spirited divisiveness.

RE: How to Tank at Work

Great ideas! How about taking credit for everyone else's ideas in the office or on the team?

Another great brown nose idea is to agree with EVERYTHING that the boss says!

I can't wait to hear more ideas....

RE: How to Tank at Work

Just by knowing more about the job he/she is doing, you become a target. Play it slow and don't try to overtake the boss. YOU LOOSE ! The day they walk you out leaves the biggest hole in your belly that seems to never mend.

    Hope you never experience it!
