Even if you spend a lot of time using Excel, you may not be taking full advantage of the spreadsheet program’s power. Productivity501 sheds some light on three of Excel’s lesser-known, but extremely useful, capabilities. They are:

  1. Transpose copy function
  2. Validate entries to a list
  3. Named regions

Granted, these aren’t functions every user needs every day, but they can definitely save you some time. The six-minute video shows you how.

    Cool

I usually skip over these "Hacks" segments, but this one was great! I always wondered how to do that "transpose" trick.

One suggestion: script the presentations a little better.

    Mark,

If you look at this help entry: "Create a drop-down list from a range of cells" (Excel 2003) you can do something similar to "Validate entries to a list" but the named ranges can be on a different sheet and you can choose to force the entries from the named range or allow for other entries (which is useful if some items are typically selected, but legitimate exceptions do occur).
