jotti.jpgEver come across a program or file that you think is legit and useful but your onboard anti-virus program flags as suspect? Before you give up on it, run it through one of the online scanners that LifeHacker suggests to see if you’re dealing with malware or just got a false positive. My favorite of the bunch is Jotti’s Online Malware Scan, as it scans your file with 20 different online scanners in a row. The scan itself takes only a couple of minutes and it’s definitely worth it for your own mental health.

Of course, as one of the LifeHacker commenters points out, “downloading files is the internet equivalent of casual sex,” and no program can ever be 100% positive that your file is virus-free. If you are going to go about downloading, though, an extra layer of protection never hurts.
