DiskAid is a freeware utility that allows you to use your iPhone (or iPod touch) as a portable hard drive. All you do is install the program (it’s available for both Windows and Mac), then connect your device. DiskAid automatically detects it and provides a familiar tree-like interface for creating folders, copying files, and so on. Best of all, you don’t have to “jailbreak” your unit in order to use the program.

Admittedly, iPhone/touch storage space tends to be at a premium, but if you need a simple way to carry some important files or just want to make an on-the-fly backup of an important document, this is a killer solution. Keep in mind that while you can also copy over MP3s, videos, and the like, you won’t actually be able to play them on your device — for that you still need iTunes. [via Lifehacker]
