Evite Sucks. Now What?

When I want to get a bunch of people together for a party or business gathering, I often find myself reluctantly turning to Evite. I hate it. Besides for the late-’90s styling, it’s got a clunky interface, is packed with ads, and forces guests to go to the website to get details. But I’m familiar with it, as are all my guests, so in the interest of smoothness, I often reluctantly come back. But there are tons of other, better invitations services out there. Here are a few I’ve tried:

facebookfront.jpg1) Facebook: It’s easy to use, easy to invite guests, and easy to update information. Plus, you don’t feel like a spammer. But it only works if most folks you’re dealing with are already on there.

socializr.jpg2) Socializr: The most Evite-like of the group I’ve tried, except that it’s much less annoying and creates urls for events. I haven’t tried Pingg, but I hear that it’s also head and shoulders above Evite.

mobaganda.gif3) Mobaganda: My current favorite (and one I just heard about at TechCrunch). You don’t even have to sign up to create an event, but it’s so bare bones that all you can do is point to a time and a place. But that’s all I ever really want to do anyway.

    RE: Evite Sucks. Now What?

I'm a recent convert to pingg (http://pingg.com). No ads, very smooth and easy to use, functionality is comparable to evite, and best of all the invites actually look and feel good in various media. They even do SMS and print invitations all from one place. Highly recommended.

Hey there, check out http://planyp.us - unlike the other services mentioned it
focuses on collaboration. Just post an idea and let your friends fill in the details.
    We're going through a big redesign too - http://flickr.com/skwp for a sneak
    preview!

    Try Google Calendar

    You might try Google's Calendar.

    http://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc

You can create events, invite guests (via email), and keep track of who responds to your invitation.

    What do expect?

What do you expect? It's Free! That's how they pay for the hardware, hosting, maintenance, etc. Ads pay for those things. And since click rates are so small, they use large ads (like Pandora does) to monetize.

    RE: Evite Sucks. Now What?

Forget evite. My friends and I really like to use Yarp at yarp.com. It's super easy and no login is required (ever, really). You just create a "yarplet" (invitation or survey) then share it with your guests. They went out of their way to not require any accounts or email addresses, for a change.
