I’m attending the Nantucket Conference, where the East Coast entrepreneurial community gathers to talk about the state of the business. It’s all off the record (though I can negotiate to post specific comments with the speakers). Perhaps because of that, the conference has a kind of intimacy that’s unusual at such tech confabs. The speakers, who’ve so far included people the CEOs of IDEO and iRobot and the head of Google’s Android program, have been very open about their companies (unfortunately, I’ve not yet been released to blog about what they said).
One thing I can note is the lack of notebook computers in the audience. I haven’t seen anybody even trying to use one to take notes. Instead, they’re using their smart phones when they want to take notes (or old-fashioned pen and paper).
There are geeky CTOs here who a year ago wouldn’t have been caught dead without a notebook computer at such a conference. Is this the sign that we’re shifting away from computers to smart phones?
