  • Recession-Proof JobsThe Find: The economic news may be moving from bad to dreadful, but at least some folks don’t have to worry; one recruitment company has identified the top five recession-proof jobs.
  • The Source: A study from Washington, DC based recruitment company, Jobfox.

The Takeaway: Jobfox set out to identify the professions that have most consistently remained in high demand over the economically rocky period from November 2007 to July 2008. The results of their findings have been published in the “Jobfox Top 20 Most Recession-Proof Professions.” Topping the list are:

  1. Sales Representative
  2. Software Design/Development
  3. Nursing
  4. Accounting & Finance Executive
  5. Accounting Staff

Apparently, even in the toughest of economic conditions numbers still have to be crunched and products hawked, and the sick, not surprisingly, still have to be cared for. HotJobs has also recently weighed in with its own views of the safest jobs for tough times, though they chose to arrange their their findings by sector. The most recession-proof industries: education, energy, health care, international business (particularly those with Chinese language skills), the environmental sector and security. Mandarin speaking sales executives in the energy sector can, therefore, rejoice.

The Question: On the flip side, which jobs are most vulnerable during a recession? And what’s to do if you have one?

Sales representative? A little vague - I'm guessing that Ferrari sales reps aren't quite in as high demand. I haven't read the study, but is studying job demand from Nov 2007 to July 2008 really nail down "recession proof jobs"?

Where is Repo jobs on this list?

How come software development is on the list? I think the first thing companies do in tough times is to cut IT spending. I have been in bench (temporary out of work) for the last couple of months and see the same situation with others here.
