Maybe 105 million weeks is much too large to wrap your mind around, so here’s a stat that will bring it a bit closer to home: Each American commuter loses a week of their time on average every year in traffic.
The study was released by the Texas Transportation Institute using data from the Federal Highway Administration. Not only did our Texas bretheran calculate lost time, but they also gave us lost dollars and fuel per driver — each person, on average, is drained of $710 every year because of traffic.
Especially shocking is that, out of all 437 U.S. urban areas, none reported a decline in traffic congestion, prompting some officials to postulate that the national highway barrel needs a little more pork!
